Pet Portraits
For all my pet portraits, I use white Canson and Strathmoore 400 Series watercolor paper that is sturdy and acid
free (it won't yellow with age).
I begin by first sketching the subject (or subjects if it is a composition) in pencil, checking details carefully. When
I am satisfied with the result, I begin painting the lightest areas first. I work from light to dark until the painting is
finished.
In my pen & ink paintings, after sketching the details, I start laying the ink, working in the values of light and
darks, creating a very detailed image that captures the pet's personality and technical correctness.
For some that commission black and white pen and ink pet portraits, it ends here and the drawing is ready to be
sent to the new owner.
For those that want a pen and ink pet portrait with watercolor, this is where I start to layer the washes of color to
get the sense of warmth and depth to the fur (or skin if hairless).
When commisioning your pet portrait, keep these things in mind:
 | | A 40% nonrefundable downpayment must be paid before I start to work on your pet portrait. |
| | This is to ensure the sincerity of the purchaser and to compensate for the level of commitment required of me and material expenses that it takes to make your pet portrait.
|
 | | Send a clear photograph that is 4 x 6" or larger that shows accurate coloring and details. |
| | Choose a photo that best illustrates your pet's personality. Your pet portrait will look exactly like your pet in the picture so make sure that you like the pose in the photograph. Also, your pet must take up at least 2/3 of the picture so I can see detail. You can send it to me via the mail with your order, or e-mail it to me as a .jpeg attachment.
|
 | | After I have completed your pet portrait, I will scan the image and send it to you to preview |
| | and let you know that your pet portrait is complete and ready to ship. After the remainder of your balance is paid in full, I will ship your pet portrait to you. (See the Pet Portrait Prices page for shipping information).

Pet Portrait Information
My pet portraits are for your enjoyment and personal use only. The copyright on all commissioned
pet portraits are retained by Tracy Guardasoni and cannot be reproduced in any way without my
express written consent .
I work off of the photo sent to me. This
step by step illustration shows why it is so
important that you send a photo that has
the exact pose that you want in your
portrait.
For pen and ink with watercolor
portraits, I start to layer washes of
watercolor on top of the pen and
ink until complete.
Note: All backgrounds are white.
